Navigating the feeling of defeat!

In today’s world, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and defeated by the state of our economy. After all, a sluggish economy where people can’t find the funds to get food on the tables for their Family’s….aren’t frequenting our Salons.

Rising costs, uncertain pressures can take a toll on even the most resilient among us….including me!

However, it’s important to remember, while the economy may be beyond our control, how we respond to it is entirely within our power.

Acknowledging our emotions is a crucial step in moving past them. Give yourself permission to feel frustrated, anxious or even angry. Your feelings are valid, yet they don’t have to define your experience.

Once you acknowledge, you will begin to think more clearly and you’ll start to cope and make some positive changes.

Give me the strength to except the things I can not change, and the courage to know the difference

While the economy is something we can’t change, we can certainly change how we respond to the challenges. Start by identifying areas of your life where you may be able to make adjustments.

This might involve a stricter budget, finding ways to reduce expenses and maybe even exploring new income opportunities. In your Salon…are you being creative?

Focusing on what you can control, can and will make you feel more empowered and less at the mercy of external circumstances.

Part of this mindset change is to reassess your financial and personal goals. Are the goals you currently have still realistic?  If not, make some adjustments. This doesn’t mean you give up your dreams, it only means you modify.

Keep in mind, you are not alone. If feeling down or overwhelmed, reach out to your Family, your Friends, your Beauty Community. Sometimes just talking about your troubles can help lift the burden. In addition, you never know what valuable resource someone may be able to help you with. Be careful however, you don’t want to have other’s bring you further down. Choose your inner circle carefully.

Educational resources is the best during these down times. When our down time happens during the Holidays, I call it my seed planting quarter. I don’t just sit and wait for the downtime to be over. I plant  seeds for a successful coming year.

Furthering your education, learning new skills or even turning your focus on your physical and mental health. By strengthening your abilities, you will be better equipped to handle whatever economic challenges may come your way.

Practice gratitude. In difficult times we can become overwhelmed with what’s going wrong. Now more than ever, shift your perspective and reflect on the positives in your life…no matter how small they may seem.

The list is simple; You just have to follow it.

  • Reconnect with your passion
  • Seek support
  • Continue learning
  • Set small goals
  • Practice self-care
  • Evaluate and adjust
  • Celebrate “all” successes
  • Stay inspired
  • If needed; Consider Professional help

Lastly- Remember, this too shall pass!

Economic downturns are a natural part of our economic cycle. By taking proactive steps and maintaining a positive mindset, you can and will navigate through these difficult times and emerge stronger on the other side.

Feeling defeated is real yet, it doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Focus on what you can control and everything mentioned above will allow you to turn defeat into determination.

Every challenge is an opportunity for growth. You, only you has the ability to rise above.
