Why Relationships Are Your Most Valuable Business Assets!

In our beauty industry today, time is moving fast and success is not just about talent and hard work. It’s about connections—the people you know, the relationships you build, and the opportunities that come from them.

Networking isn’t just a trendy buzzword; I personally have been networking since the late 70’s-early 80’s….and it wasn’t in the Beauty Industry.

Networking is one of the most powerful tools you can use to grow your business, expand your knowledge, and elevate your career.

Yes, I am speaking from experience.

1. Networking Can Open Doors You Didn’t Even Know Existed

Opportunities often come from unexpected places. A casual conversation at a trade show could lead to a new product line for your salon. An introduction from a fellow beauty professional could open the door to a speaking engagement, media feature, or business collaboration. The more people you connect with, the more possibilities you create for your business.

2. Learn from Others’ Experience..and not just “other’s” within the Beauty Industry

One of the greatest benefits of networking is the ability to learn from people who have been where you are—or where you want to go. Whether it’s a tip on managing client expectations, advice on a difficult service situation, or insight into a new product, other professionals can share lessons that save you time, money, and mistakes.

I realize we can’t always learn from others mistakes, yet networking and hearing other stories of trials and tribulations can certainly help guide you down a path to success.

3. Build Trust and Credibility

When you consistently show up in professional circles—both in person and online—you become known as someone who is engaged, committed, and knowledgeable. This reputation builds trust, which can lead to client referrals, supplier deals, and even mentorship opportunities.

4. Networking is a Two-Way Street

It’s not just about what you can get from others—it’s about what you can give. When you share your own expertise, make introductions, or offer help, you strengthen relationships and create a network that genuinely supports one another. I caution you though. Be sure to share accurate information, related insights and be sure you are 100% about whomever you may refer.

5. Networking Fuels Personal Growth

Stepping out of your comfort zone to meet new people challenges you to grow—not just as a business owner, but as a person. You’ll gain confidence, improve your communication skills, and develop a fresh perspective on your work and your industry.  If you don’t get out there, you will never brek out of the shell you may be hiding in.

Where And How Do You Begin?
  • Attend Industry Events – Trade shows and classes are goldmines for meeting like-minded professionals.

  • Join Professional Groups – Local business associations or online forums help you connect year-round. Step out of the box. Network with other Business Professionals outside of the Beauty Industry. You might be surprised.

  • Follow Up – A quick email or message after meeting someone keeps the connection alive.

  • Be Authentic – People connect with people, not sales pitches. Be genuine in your conversations. Be natural.

Networking is more than a list of contacts—it’s a living, breathing ecosystem of relationships that can help you thrive in both business and life. The more you nurture those connections, the stronger your career will be.

So, next time you’re invited to an event, meet someone new at a conference, or see an opportunity to connect with a fellow professional—say yes. Embrace your new relationship and be sure to mentor a give and take relationship.

I have made a pivot in my networking circle. I’ve attended much smaller events throughout our Industry and I have found myself really enjoying them.  These smaller events allow you to not just meet and greet. They allow you to spend time talking with an attendee which gives me the opportunity to share valuable knowledge….and answer questions.

Where do you want to be?  do you want to attend n event for a “deal”…or do you want to attend an event to meet people, fellow piers who you will connect with for life and actually receive something from it.

  1. Love every bit of this in my growth! It has been such a wonderful journey to the destination. Whatever that may be. I am enjoying the ride each step of the way. Even when I go forward to find myself going backwards first at times. Thank you for showing up and sharing with consistency. I am learning to do just that. Be consistent. Blessings!
