If you have been reading any of my blogs, you have read about my plans to readjust and reinvent. I practice what I preach.
I absolute love our facility. Initially I was a little put back to realize I can only afford flex space. Space with 1 office, bathroom and the rest warehouse. However, we moved in and I’ve been in my glory (this was 3 years ago)…..however, in practicing what I preach, I did the math and all my square footage was NOT working for me. I knew I needed to make a change and the biggest change was the decision to downsize.
We initially sought out to look for approx. 1500 square feet. However, during that period of time, there were not many flex spaces available in that size. We ended up going into a 2250 sq ft space.
I was excited for the extra space because it would allow me to have my own classroom. I could set up my nail table, my pedicure chair and have an eating area. My dreams were bigger than reality. The climate of our Industry took a change towards on-line/social media classes. In-house classes are becoming a thing of the past.
So this past August, I took the plunge and sought out a smaller place, notified my landlord of my exit and made it work. I’m so committed to this, I’m having a sign made for me to hang on my wall “focus on the savings”;
THEN – the fear set in!
Change is one of the most inevitable parts of life, yet it’s something that can often feel overwhelming.
Whether its in our personal lives, careers, or even within our Business, the fear of change can hold us back.
What if instead of resisting, we learn to adapt?
Understand the fear
Please remember. fear of change is natural. When confronted with something new, our immediate response can be stress or anxiety. Which, can include fear of failure, fear of the unknown, or even the fear of losing control.
Most of us forget however, change also presents opportunities. Adapting to the change instead of resisting can open doors to new possibilities, ideas and pathways we might never have considered.
What should we do?
- Acknowledge the fear
- Break the change into smaller steps
- Focus on the positives
- Seek support
- Practice Flexibility
- Learn from the past
- Turn fear into growth
Adapting to change can feel like a daunting task, yet one we all face some type of change at some point. By embracing the fear, breaking down the process and focusing on the positives, we can learn to thrive amidst change rather than be paralyzed by it.
This is what I did;
- I accepted I needed to do this.
- Instead of waiting for the last minute to give notice to my landlord, I did it 2-3 months prior to my last day
- My sign is in progress “focus on the savings”
- I started making comments and talking to my friends
- I settled for more than 1/2 of my space now 2250 sq ft compared to 1200 sq ft
- I felt proud I was making better decisions than I have in the past. Learning from my experience.
- My brain is thinking again. I’m so excited to share with you soon, our upcoming FREE monthly webinars
Growth with a positive attitude is emanate. growth with a negative attitude is failure
