Don’t get left behind: The Value of Being Informed

There has been a whole ton of information circulating on social media regarding TPO in our gel polishes.  The news media has certainly been living up to their name “fake news”.  News isn’t news anymore.  The definition of news is “information about current events”.  Somehow, the news has turned into “information about current events “unverified”.

Being properly informed is powerful—it shapes the way we think, act, and helps us make decisions.  Lets look at the importance of being well informed:
  1. Better Decision-Making
Knowledge equips you to make choices that are smart, safe, and beneficial.  However, as I always say….double check everything you hear and make sure your sources are reputable.

  2. Protection & Safety
Being informed about risks, regulations, and best practices helps prevent harm and ensures you act responsibly.  Again, protection and safety are important yet, over-reaction to information can sometimes cause hurtful actions.

  3. Confidence & Credibility
When you know your subject, you gain trust from others, build authority, and feel more confident in your role.  Simply put.  Knowledge is Power.

  4. Adaptability
Information keeps you up to date with changes—whether it’s new technology, laws, or industry standards.  Being informed is crucial when owning a Business.

  5. Empowerment
Knowledge reduces fear of the unknown. The more informed you are, the more control you have over your circumstances.  Accurate knowledge also reduces the need for panic.

There is a flip side to “being informed.” The dangers of misinformation (or even half-information) are very real.
  1. Poor Decisions
Acting on incorrect or incomplete information can lead to mistakes.  Making decisions too soon and passing misinformation onto others.

  2. Loss of Trust
When people discover the information you shared isn’t accurate, your credibility and professionalism take a hit.

  3. Potential Harm
In industries like beauty and health, misinformation can cause physical harm, not just confusion. For example, using the wrong product or technique because of a false claim.  Or, discontinuing a product because of misinformation.  This…can be a costly mistake.

  4. Missed Opportunities
If you’re misinformed, you may ignore better solutions, new innovations, or safer practices simply because you don’t know the facts.

  5. Spread of Confusion
Misinformation multiplies quickly. Once it’s shared, it becomes harder to correct—and others may suffer the consequences.

Something I have learned since the climate of our news media has changed….don’t believe anything you hear until you #1 hear more and #2 know a good source to verify the information you are hearing.  Information regarding our industry is NO JOKE.  I would imagine, information regarding any industry is no joke yet, the Beauty Industry is what is most important to me.  It’s my life.

I caution you to be careful about what you post or re-post on social media. The panic of misinformation is real.  Remember also, opinions are like butt-holes…..everyone has one. Check your facts, know your sources and make decisions based on being informed, not based on reaction.
