Why Setting Clear Business and Personal Goals Matters Now More Than Ever
As we close out another year at Centre for Beauty, I have found myself reflecting on everything this industry continues to teach us, about persistence, about adaptation, and about the incredible power of community. I have not only found this with my Business, I feel the same regarding the passing of my Dad last December, as we come upon the 1-year anniversary of his passing.
This past year has been one of transformation for many of us. Whether you were growing your business, expanding your education, or simply trying to keep all the pieces together (bingo), it’s important to acknowledge every step forward.
And believe me, there have been many…at least in my world.
Looking Back
I am not one for looking back per say however, I believe it is important when you set goals and have aspirations to look at where you were and how far you have come.
This year at Centre for Beauty, our focus stayed true to our purpose:
Empowering beauty professionals through education, high-quality foot-care products, and business support.
We expanded our educational offerings via our monthly free webinars, continued developing online programs which, WILL come into fruition this year, presented at 8 trade shows this year, deepened partnerships, and supported more salons and service providers who are committed to elevating foot care in the industry.
From specialized trainings like Missing Pieces to important conversations around Oncology Care in the Pedicure Room, we moved the needle in areas that truly matter for client safety, technician confidence, and the long-term health of our profession.
And behind the scenes?
Like many of you, I juggled operations, teaching, product distribution, business development, and the day-to-day responsibilities that come with running a company solo. It wasn’t always easy—but it was purposeful.
Every challenge this year reinforced the same message:
Success doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by intention.
Why Goal-Setting Matters for the Coming Year
As we step into a new year, it’s the perfect time to pause and re-center. Not just as business owners, but as individuals.
1. Goals Give Direction
When you’re running a business-especially alone-it’s easy to fall into reactive mode, constantly putting out fires. Clear goals pull you out of that cycle and help you lead from a place of strategy instead of stress.
2. Goals Create Momentum
Growth happens when small, focused steps compound over time. Whether you’re planning new certifications, restructuring your service menu, or improving your retail strategies, defined goals give you something to build on each month.
My motto has been “be the turtle, not the hare”.
3. Goals Protect You From “Overwhelm”
“Overwhelm” is real in this industry. Setting boundaries and personal goals is just as important as business ones. You can’t pour into your clients or your team if you’re running on empty. Learn that taking things slowly and methodically put you in the winners circle every time.
4. Goals Keep You Accountable
It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. Setting goals, holding yourself accountable, helps you check in on yourself and your business with honesty and compassion.
What I’m Focusing On and What You Can, Too
Here at Centre for Beauty, the coming year will bring:
-
Continued development of online courses. That’s my #1 goal.
-
Streamlining our operations to better serve beauty professionals
-
Strengthening our educational community
-
Increasing support, resources, and guidance for salons who want to elevate their foot-care services
-
Making strategic financial strides towards my exit strategy….which, you should all have regardless of where you are in your career.
And for you?
I encourage you to choose goals that support both your professional growth and your personal well-being.
Ask yourself:
-
What do I want my business to look like one year from now?
-
What education or skills will help me get there?
-
What systems can I create to lighten my load?
-
What do I need, personally, to feel fulfilled and supported?
These answers can shape a roadmap that works for you instead of adding pressure.
