How to Prepare Your Salon for the Holiday Season?

I don’t know about you.  This year went by fast.  So fast, don’t blink……The Holiday Season is here.

The holiday season is one of the busiest — and can be the most profitable times of the year for salons. Clients are booking appointments to look their best for gatherings, photos, and parties, while also shopping for thoughtful beauty-inspired gifts. With the right preparation, your salon can maximize this exciting season while creating a warm, welcoming experience your clients will remember well into the new year.

1. Plan Your Holiday Schedule Early

Clients start thinking about holiday beauty appointments weeks in advance…like now….as should you.  Get ahead by opening your books early and talking with each of your customers to book into the New Year.  Start putting out reminders through social media, email newsletters, and in-salon signage.

Encourage your clients to pre-book to secure their preferred times. Consider altering your schedule to accommodate the increase, the rush we all get caught up in during the Holiday.  Remembering to be thankful for the busiest months of the year and also remembering, it’s all only temporary.

2. Create a Festive Atmosphere

First impressions matter, ALL impressions matter and the holidays are the perfect time to impress your clients with warmth and cheer. A few seasonal touches — twinkling lights, winter greenery, or a subtle holiday scent — can make your salon feel inviting. Choose décor that aligns with your brand style, whether it’s elegant and minimal or colorful and cozy.

Involve your clients in Holiday games.  Choose a gift box (they can be cut outs) and reveal a free Holiday design or a free upgrade to a service like our Golden Girl mask or lightening, brightening peel.

3. Offer Holiday Packages and Promotions

Clients react very well to “bundles”.  Bundle services together to create value-packed holiday packages. Bundles perceive value.

  • “Holiday Ready”: manicure and pedicure. If you are full service, add a brow shaping.

  • “Party Perfect”: blowout and makeup application.  Offer nail services?  Add a manicure

  • “Relax & Renew”: facial and pedicure….maybe add a hair mask.

Pair these with retail promotions, such as discounts on gift sets, “buy more save more” offers, or gift card bonuses (e.g., buy $100, get $20 free).  You are only limited by your imagination!

4. Stock Up on Retail and Gift Options

The holidays are prime time for retail sales. Stock up on bestsellers and display them in an attractive way. Consider creating ready-to-go gift sets with professional products, or make your own self-care kits like foot care bundles, skincare essentials, or nail polish collections. Make it easy for clients to grab a thoughtful gift during their visit.

Think stocking stuffer’s, white elephant games, Work gift exchange.

5. Streamline Operations

With increased traffic, organization is key. Ensure you have enough supplies, tools, and staffing to keep everything running smoothly. Review your booking system to minimize gaps and reduce wait times. Hold staff meetings on up-selling opportunities and customer service touch-points so every client feels cared for and none of your staff is left in the dark.

6. Show Appreciation to Clients

The holidays are the perfect time to thank your clients for their loyalty. Small gestures go a long way — a handwritten card, a sample-sized product, or a complimentary add-on service (like a quick hand scrub) can make them feel valued.

Thank them for the extra tip they may give you. Clients…we all….like to be acknowledged.

7. Take Care of Your Team

The season is demanding. Support your team with proper scheduling, breaks, and encouragement. Consider hosting a staff appreciation event or giving small holiday bonuses or even just buying them lunch.

A motivated, happy team creates a better client experience.

Preparing your salon for the holiday season isn’t just about decorating and promotions although I personally feel, it plays an important part.

It’s also about creating memorable experiences for your clients while keeping your business running smoothly. With thoughtful planning and festive touches, your salon, you and your team can shine as the go-to destination for beauty, self-care, and holiday cheer….with little to no stress.
