How many excuses do you have?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

The names in this story are fictitious yet the story is very true.

A friend of mine, let’s call him Howard has been visiting a local Barber, who we will call Lucy. Howard has used Lucy’s services for about the last 3 years.

Howard had an appointment with Lucy this past week. In speaking with him I asked, did she go to the Premiere Orlando show this year. He said no…she didn’t know anything about it.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

How can she not know anything about it, I asked? After all, if she is licensed in the State of Florida she received emails and the Premiere booklets they send out every year?

He said she didn’t realize the show was in June because it was October last year. Okay, maybe I can give her that yet she’s been doing this for a long time and “again” the Premiere Group sends plenty of notifications.

Well, she’s busy he says and it just slipped by.

I couldn’t let it go because I also reminded him her boyfriend is also a Barber. He didn’t know either?

Howard was out of town a few months ago and got his hair cut by a Barber in the area he was at. From what I could tell when I saw him…it was a much cleaner, organized cut.

I thought Howard was going to seek out another Barber who maybe had more experience or at least might be able to give him what he got out of town. So I was a bit surprised when he went back to the same girl.

Of course, I just couldn’t let it go.

Why would you continue to go to a stylist who doesn’t continuously learn and/or try to perfect her trade?

Howard was defending her, which I get….however, why is Lucy making excuses? If she didn’t go, she didn’t go. If it was because of finances or maybe she didn’t want to…fine….just say it. And yes, there is that slight possibility she didn’t know. I’ve been in this industry for 34 years….I would bet my entire career, she knew. And oh BTW…did I tell you she works in a Salon suite? Do you think they talk to each other? Someone had to know.

How many excuses do you have to NOT do the things you’ve either been wanting to do or know you should do?

Excuses are defense mechanisms. When someone is on defense, they typically know they were wrong. They try to justify every reason as to the why.

I was having a conversation with my daughter the other day. I can really sum this article up in our whole conversation.

Every day, no matter how we feel, we have to keep those creative juices flowing. Like any Technician sitting behind the desk, any Stylist sitting behind a chair, any Salon Owner or Business owner, we truly have no one to be accountable to except ourselves when it comes to the success of our Business…the success of ourselves.

A big part of any Business is the ability to constantly evolve. Staying stagnant is NOT an option. If we do stay stagnant, Business may be good today……yet it could very well be gone tomorrow.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

Competition is not a new thing. We are more aware of it because of social media, yet competition has been around for years.

Can you imagine if Coke made excuses not to push forward when Pepsi came out? Home Depot giving up because Lowe’s was established?

When you think of just these two examples, think about the changes they’ve made over the years. Think about the constant promotions and offerings they do for their clients….they are all the same, yet different.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

The benefit of course is these Companies are huge conglomerates and they have “people” to do their marketing for them. We don’t. For this reason alone, it’s imperative not to make excuses for the why.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

Another part of the conversation with my daughter, went something like this.

What keeps me going is reading. All the motivational, self help books I read especially when I don’t have time in my schedule to attend any classes…really help. They keep me accountable. They keep my mind processing (albeit too much) and they make me realize success doesn’t happen by itself.

If you want a full book. If you want to increase your retail. If you want to upgrade your Pedicures, increase your prices or offer specialized services like Oncology Care in the Pedicure room. Stop making excuses as to why……and just make it happen. It is really just that simple.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]This article came about not just because of Howard and Lucy. It also is a result of so many Technicians I hear make excuses for NOT doing something which could enhance their career. Those are the same Technicians who have been stagnant and complain they have no Business.

Please, don’t misunderstand me. I know there are some very legitimate reasons why people can’t go. Those are not the excuses I’m speaking of and I think we all know the differences.

I even catch myself sometimes knowing I need to do something yet, not doing it.  I can tell you though, doing it feels a whole lot better than not.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]Centre for Beauty has an array of classes being offered with more to come. Many offer amazing classes available to our technicians.

  • Commit to at least 2 classes per year
  • Choose classes which suit you
  • Seek them out; mark the dates on your calendar
  • Save $$$

Two classes per year is definitely doable.  They don’t have to be expensive  They could be on line or in connection with a trade show you are already attending

Take classes which fit your Business motto. Classes which you can learn from yet also be beneficial for your Business. Don’t take a class just because you think it’s the latest greatest next thing.

Find them. Do the research on the educator. I can’t tell you how many clients share with me, the educator was just ok. An educator should know his/her stuff . They should motivate you and make you feel like you can go conquer the world.

Once you know the class, the dates and the cost. Start saving.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]I have an assignment for you. Have you been wanting to take a class?

Write down 10 reasons you have not. One by one, knock off each excuse. I guarantee, once you write them down and have that Visual…you will realize they are just excuses holding you back.

Visit our education page which we change on a regular basis adding more and more classes. If you don’t find what you want there, keep looking. As I said above, there are many educational and amazing classes offered by many for our Mfg’s and/or Distributors.

I’m confident you can find one which works for you….no excuses![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”9172″ title=”CJ Murray, President”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

  1. Exactly, no excuses. My toxic trait is overwhelming myself with too much education lol. I learned to slow down and figure out what is next to learn or improve on. Those who are willing to learn will seek it and improve. Those who don’t won’t see much progress in their lives overall. I’m planning for Florida Orlando Premier next year! I’m saving up now! Business trip/family trip.

    1. Yup…..never can have too much education though. It’s all so motivating. Even at this point in my career and my life, I’m so thrilled when I can walk away with just 1 thing which will help me be better today than I was yesterday. It becomes addictive. It would be great to see you in my backyard turf. Hope you can make it happen.
