CONFIDENCE

This will probably be my most profound article of the year. The way I feel about being confident and being able to share with others to be confident, is what I love to do.

What most people don’t realize, many who are confident are very timid as well. Partly because that is how they hide from their true self. Yet also because confidence is not needing the limelight.

People have asked me how I can sit back and just watch others take my work and make it theirs? The fact is, what they are doing is exactly what I want them to do. There are people who just can not come up with their own original idea. However, those people if handing them something to start with, they can do endless things and grow into something really good and beneficial.  Again, why I love what I do. It’s not about me. It’s about you!

I often say in my classes “having butterflies is a good thing. you just have to keep them in formation.”

The day you lose the butterflies over anything you love to do, is the day you need to get out of the Business. In my opinion, the same applies to confidence.

If you lose confidence, you lose the message.

I feel however, everyone does has confidence. Whether you believe it or not, you do. You had the confidence to go through school, pass your exam, get your license. You had the confidence to learn your trade and eventually get into your own Business. You have people that visit you and pay you. How beautiful as that?

I also feel confidence can be mixed up with comfort. We feel comfortable when we are familiar with our surroundings, or we are familiar with what we do. If we are not comfortable then we don’t feel confident in what we do right? So maybe, just maybe it isn’t lack of confidence we have, we just aren’t comfortable because  we are treading on unfamiliar territory, regardless of what that might be.

Therefore, to gain “confidence” we have to be comfortable. To be comfortable we have to really know what we are doing. Whether that be a manual act like applying a full set of nails, or speaking in front of a group about a particular topic.

I believe there are 4 main aspects to building confidence;

  • Knowledge
  • Comfort
  • Positivity
  • Belief

Knowledge IS power. The more you know about something, the more confident you are to discuss it. Study your products, practice your trade and you will exam the confidence you think you don’t have.

Comfort comes with confidence. Ever notice when you speak of something your aren’t “comfortable” with, the words just don’t flow? In fact, you may even stutter. The more you are familiar with a topic, the more comfortable you are to discuss it, the more confidence you become.

Positivity is positively the #1 aspect. It’s okay to admit you aren’t familiar with something. However, admit it. Don’t be timid in your response. Positivity is contagious. Even if you aren’t familiar, if your positive attitude shines through, others will have patience with you until you are familiar.

Belief in ones self. The word “can’t” should not be in your vocabulary. None of us can do anything until we try. That doesn’t necessarily mean we will be able to eventually do everything. Yet, unless you try, unless you believe in yourself……confidence can not happen. Believe it or not, people with confidence didn’t just happen that way over night. They are knowledgable, they are comfortable in their knowledge, they stay positive all the time and they absolutely believe in themselves.

Confidence is in all of us. It’s what we believe that makes us think we are or aren’t confident.
