How do you stay creative?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Many of you may not realize, I have been writing weekly articles since roughly 2004.

I first started when Cosmoprof offered their on line blog. I was approached about writing the articles for their nail section.

I remember the Executive in charge “Bart Foreman” told me. ‘The first article is the easiest. The more you write the more difficult it gets’.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

I honestly didn’t get it at the time. I did shortly thereafter, and I certainly do now.

Coming up with topic after topic, maintaining interest, obtaining participation and making each article filled with passion every time … is certainly very challenging.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row content_placement=”middle” css=”.vc_custom_1534802218178{margin-top: 50px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”24″ img_size=”500×500″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

I liken my article writing to my Tech’s working behind the chair.

Doing the same thing day in and day out, keeping it interesting to you and your clients, maintaining your passion and not getting burn out….is very challenging.

In addition, as a Technician you get paid for what you do. Being able to provide what you provide with a happy face appointment after appointment is certainly more challenging than me writing and article every week and not getting paid.

However, although what we do might be a bit different, it all boils down to the same thing. This is what we chose to do. That being the case, it is our responsibility to ourselves, to our clients to keep it going, keep it interesting and keep it passionate.

Burn out is real. Bad days are real.

Self motivation is difficult.

Remember however, passion is real.

The greatest enjoyment I get from what I do, or actually anything in life, is my ability to be creative.

I’ve said before, I sometimes wonder if I did live another life prior to this one because ideas will literally pop into my head out of no where. Yet, I know, it had to come from somewhere.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]What if though, that isn’t you? What if you can’t just randomly have thoughts pop into your head. What if you need constant feeding in order to bring out your creativity?

Nail art to me, is the ultimate in creativity. You don’t just have to think of the idea, you have to be able to put it on a canvas, and a very small one at that. I admire all of you who have that creative ability. I’m not saying I can’t. However, that isn’t me.

Where do you go though to get those creative ideas? Is it a piece of wall art you saw? A t-shirt? A landscape? A cartoon? A garden? I’m sure as a nail artist when having to “create” what you do, inspiration comes from somewhere?[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]My feeling on staying creative is to constantly feed your mind, be aware of your surroundings and listen.

For me it’s constantly feeding my mind and listening. I love to read inspirational and motivational books. I love to listen to inspirational stories. I listen to my clients and I try to stay attentive to their needs. I stay tuned of Industry happenings and I watch….and I learn.

Because of this, I am able to keep my mind in a constant State of awareness. I am never stagnat.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]Stagnation is evil. Stagnation to me is very much like fear. In fact, sometimes I believe becoming stagnant is a result of fear.

Fear will stifle. If we don’t take chances, if we don’t take that step not knowing where it’s going to go, if we don’t pursue what we believe regardless of how difficult it is…we are stagnant.

Don’t let fear overcome your passion.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

There are many types of Creativity
  • Divergent thinking. Divergent thinking moves away from the traditional, convergent thinking, which is linear and analytical. …
  • Problem Solving. It is possible to improve the problem solving process by implementing creativity. …
  • Inspiration and imagination. …

Do you know where you fall? I definitely believe I am a little of all of the above. I definitely step out of the box. I write many times in an effort to help solve problems. And, I am always trying to be inspirational and push our Techs (you) to use your imagination.

The world is our canvas, we need to use it.

Where does your creativity come from?
  • Reading?
  • Others?
  • Travel?
  • Meditation?
  • Exercise?

Wherever it may be, just keep doing it. We may stahl for a few moments, but don’t stop.

Keep feeding the creative gene and open yourself for all that comes your way. Just don’t stop.

I firmly believe it is the constant desire to continue to do what we do. The constant desire to be the best we can be. The constant desire to bring happiness and joy to others. And, the constant state of Euphoria we feel from being accomplished, that keeps us creative.
