Merry Christmas

Cj’s Holiday Edition #3-Where did Christmas originate?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

As I said in my opening page, regardless of where we come from or what we believe, the end result is all the same.

We want to celebrate our belief, spend time with Family and take a big sigh after yet another crazy year.

It got me thinking, the words Merry Christmas just seem so appropriate this time of year. Who thought of this?

To be so creative or influential in starting a 2-word phrase which would carry on through eternity, is pretty darn amazing.

Christmas, (Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus). The English term Christmas (“mass on Christ’s day”) is of fairly recent origin. The earlier term Yule may have derived from the Germanic jōl or the Anglo-Saxon geōl, which referred to the feast of the winter solstice.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row content_placement=”middle” css=”.vc_custom_1534802218178{margin-top: 50px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Who were the first to invent Christmas?

The first recorded incidence of Christmas being celebrated, we have found dates all the way back to the Roman Empire in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine – so technically the Romans invented it, although there’s no specific person who is credited with having done so.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”10939″ img_size=”500×500″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534802238716{margin-top: 50px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]There are some amazing stories and facts about Christmas;

  • Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.

  • Christmas trees were first used by ancient Egyptians and Romans

  • Santa Claus was known as Sinterklaas in Dutch.

  • Santa Claus did not always dress up in red clothes

  • The Christmas wreath is a symbol of love and eternal life.

  • Carolling is based on the tradition of wassailing.

  • There’s a story behind the ’12 days of Christmas’.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]December 25th was chose to mark the birthday of Jesus Christ after his death, by the Roman Catholic church. Although, I can’t share in the details…I do know many other religions celebrate whomever their divine leader is.

Although trees had nothing to do with the birth of Jesus Christ, it is an interesting fact to know before trees began being decorated with ornaments, they were decorated with fruits and nuts.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]When Santa Claus, originally believed to be St. Nicholas a huge donator to the poor came into Christmas, he was called Sinterklaas in Dutch. It wasn’t until later he became Santa Claus.

Santa Claus started out wearing clothes in the colors of green, purple, or blue. For many years, this was the common theme for the jolly old man at the North Pole. It wasn’t until Coca Cola decided to dress him up in colours of red and white which  matched their brand that made Santa Claus look like he does today.  It was a Marketing theme which stuck.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

Love is evident in our Holiday Season with a constant reminder in the wreaths on display. A great symbol which is mean’t to have the meaning of forever love. The evergreen foliage and the continuous circle used to make Christmas wreaths symbolizes the continuity of life and nature even in the darkest days of winters.

Love is also evident in the tradition of the 12 days of Christmas. Legend has it that the three kings took 12 days to travel to the birthplace of baby Jesus, hence the holidays of Christmas are known as 12 days of Christmas.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]It took a while for the holiday of Christmas to become recognized in the United States.

The year 1836 Alabama was the first state in the US to recognize Christmas as a holiday.

Oklahoma! was the last State to recognize Christmas in 1907.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]So many interesting facts about Christmas I didn’t even know.

What I did know, and I know for sure now is the Holidays are for love and Family. All of us at Centre For Beauty wish you and yours the best “whatever” it is you celebrate. Share your love, enjoy your Family. Be safe and until next time…..[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_single_image image=”1481″ title=”CJ Murray, President”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
